World Vision
Lending a Helping HandWorld Vision sees a speedy resolution to its backup blues thanks to Maxium Solutions (now Skipton Group) and IBM®

From the simple gift of chickens to building homes after a hurricane, World Vision Canada has spent more than 50 years developing strategies that address poverty, disaster and their consequences. A Christian humanitarian relief and development organization headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario, World Vision Canada aims to create permanent, positive change for children, the poor and oppressed in more than 90 countries.
A reliable Information Technology (IT) infrastructure is key to the organization. World Vision's Web site (http://www.worldvision.ca/) allows a donor to give a chicken and rooster, sponsor a needy family and learn about ways to volunteer. A customized database tracks donors, including the Canadian supporters who have generously sponsored more than 300,000 children worldwide.
"As a nonprofit organization, World Vision depends on a cost-effective IT system to keep fundraising and administration expenses to less than 20 percent of revenues, and keep sponsor dollars headed to the people most in need," says Eddie Chu, Chief Information Officer at World Vision. "Data is particularly key to our organization, and we also need a backup system that ensures protection and reliability."
A process that took up to 60 hours for a full backup drove World Vision to look for alternatives. After talking to Maxium Solutions Inc., an IBM Premier Business Partner, the solution to the problem was a backup system based on a Windows™ 2000 server, IBM TotalStorage™ Network Attached Storage and Tivoli® Storage Manager (TSM) software.
"In terms of performance, Maxium painted a clear picture of what we could expect and we began realizing those benefits almost right away."
